LP, the analogue sound, is still appreiciated by many fans, claiming that it could convey more details in the music; they believe that while listening to CD, the digitalised sound, a lot of details are lost. On this, you are right.
it is like in the photo industry, digital cameras can bring more fun but digital cameras are not able to bring the same high performance of the old-style film cameras. The problem is that, digital cameras are getting more and more popular while film cameras are dying out.
so is LP v.s. CD, only highly-bewitched fans are listening to LP today, the common music lovers are all CD now, which is sad but irreversible.
In order to overcome the monotonous sound of CD disc, SACD and XRCD are developed trying to enrich the CD music, so by the way of technical improvement, SACD and XRCD shoud be better than CD.
Surely it happens that sometimes a SACD sounds no better than a CD of same content, but this could mean only one thing - the publisher of this SACD is not doing a good job. If you listen to SACD produced by DG or Top Music, the results are always excellent. If you listen to XRCD produced by First Impression Music (FIM), you have to say that XRCD is also better than a normal CD.
I have personally compared a lot CD with SACD of same music, even yesterday I was listening to "The Larks Ascending" by Williams, played by Halary Hahn, the British violinist, on a SACD made by DG. Then I changed to the same piece of music on a normal CD produced by DECCA, I have to say that the difference is really there! The SACD version does sound better.
